PLA (polylactic acid) types and why is it so popular?

PLA2.png

PLA is made out of the lactic acids from corn and sugar cane.

PLA production is a popular idea as it represents the fulfilment of the dream of cost-efficient, ECO-Friendly, non-petroleum plastic production. The enormous benefit of PLA as a bioplastic is its versatility and the fact that it is biologically degradable. For example, a PLA bottle left in the ocean will degrade in 6 to 24 months. Compared to conventional plastics (which in similar conditions and environments can take several hundred to a thousand years to degrade) this is truly phenomenal.

PLA is one of two common plastics used in 3D printing and is commonly available as a 3D printable filament; the other common 3D printer plastic is ABS. Although we at VectorX3D use industrial printers handling the more rarer materials as well.

VectorX3D uses high quality PLA and we offer a huge variety of colors, including all conventional colors, marble, rainbow and glow in the dark!
